Warning: Spoilers Below!
In all fairness this is really my 21.5 week check-in, but Mike and I were on vacation all last week so I decided to wait to give an update until today because we finally had our anatomy ultrasound!
For those who don’t know, this is the ultrasound where everything is checked, measured, and counted. We are very lucky and happy to report that so far as can be seen, everything looks perfectly normal and healthy. There are 10 finger and 10 toes, 4 chambers in the heart, normal blood flow in the umbilical chord, normal growth in the brain and spine, and so on and so on.
After checking to make sure everything was healthy and beautiful, our technician asked if we wanted to know the sex and I think I blurted out “yes!” before she even finished the question. (Mike of course was a little more polite with a “yes, please!”) She asked if we had any guesses as to what it might be and we both answered that we have been feeling pretty strongly all along that it is a girl. The technician did a close up and confirmed that we were right. I will never forget the moment she said,
“Congratulations, you are having a girl!”
The ultrasound was an amazing experience; the baby did not like being poked at with the little wand and was very active the whole time. Even the technician was getting a kick out of it and kept chuckling when she pushed down a little and got swatted at. We got loads of pictures, and even a few short videos, so I thought I would share one of my favorites. Here for your viewing pleasure: our darling little girl sucking her thumb (or possibly pointer finger?)
Enjoy!
